My Role & Impact
During my time at Smart Design, I worked on three main projects. My primary role was to analyze and extract insights from qualitative and quantitative research such as survey responses and stakeholder interviews, and turn those meta-insights into design opportunities and concepts with Figma.
01 Delivering a client proposal
-
Collaborated with designers and business development managers to deliver a client proposal with 5 main design opportunities.
-
Extracted key insights and opportunities from analyzing quantitative survey responses and qualitative video responses of 100+ participants and turned them into design opportunities.
02 Smart Design Website
-
Analyzed the current Smart Design website by creating a UX audit and analyzing survey responses from site visitors.
-
Interviewed 20+ stakeholders to understand stakeholders’ goals and identify new design opportunities.

Quotes from Smarties
I got to work with such a passionate and talented group of Smarties throughout my projects.
My co-workers really appreciated me taking the initiative and constantly being curious and asking questions as it resulted in autonomy and quick results. See what fellow Smarties have said about working with me!
“For the client proposal, she brought together a broad range of general landscape into clear findings and did an amazing job pulling insights from the data of our express survey. The way she laid out the data findings in Miro helped visualize the insights so we could build off of them.”
“Once I explained what to do, Sumin knew and ran with it very easily with no further explanation and wire-framed out concepts in just the right fidelity.”
“She was able to facilitate stakeholder interviews with internal Smarties, which I believe is the first time she’s interviewed stakeholders vs doing general audience research. When Sumin wasn’t sure of something, she was quick to ask questions and get feedback to ensure she was on the right path.”
03 Reflections
Main takeaways
Overall, I learned and grew so much as a designer from learning to become a more proactive designer and communicating my designs effectively to my teammates.
01 Taking initiative and getting out of your comfort zone
-
It was my first time leading stakeholder interviews and through this I gained the confidence and new experience that added onto my interviewing skills. I learned the importance of always challenging yourself and getting out of the comfort zone to learn something new.
02 Always looking at the bigger picture
-
I learned to always look at the bigger picture as this will help me understand the needs better, where users are coming from and where they’re going, as well as be a tool to communicate your ideas to the team that may not have the bigger picture as context.
03 Communicating your ideas/thoughts to the team
-
Because creative work is a collaborative effort and a result of the whole team, I realized the importance of being vocal and learning how to communicate my ideas/opinions to the team as sharing even the smallest of ideas as they can be seeds of something bigger.
